Fire Behavior Normals

Total Fuel Consumption

Total Fuel Consumption (TFC) is the predicted weight of fuel consumed by the fire both on the forest floor and in the crowns of the trees. It is measured in kilograms per square metre of ground surface and is based on Foliar Moisture Content, Surface Fuel Consumption, and Rate of Spread.

More information about the Canadian Forest Fire Weather Index (FWI) System is available in the Background Information.

Fire Behavior Normals represent the average value of a fire behavior element over the 30-year period from 1981 to 2010.
